History
In (/entry/Long_Night_at_GoloskiStation) , Yad Tovich met [Hellboy](/entry/Hellboy(character)) at Goloski Station wo came to meet with Professor Onchukov for some information. Yad sadly informed the paranormal hunter that Onchukov was planning to kill him, to gain Baba Yaga's favor and showed Hellboy the professor's head which had become a wolf's. The old hunter advised Hellboy that he should have killed the witch when he had the chance and advised him to go back the way he came. Since the next train would not arrive until morning Hellboy was stuck there until then.
They were soon joined by three strangers, which Yad welcomed and ushered into the station house. Using his holy brand scar he detected that one of the men was a warlock and the other two were his demon slaves. When Hellboy advised that they should leave, Yad instead stated that he would fight them believing that he and Hellboy could surprise them. Seeing Hellboy's gun, Yad gave him three silver buttons that belonged to Bishop Zrinyi.
However one of the men knew Yad's name and warned the hunter that he should walk away as they were only there for Hellboy. Yad refused stating he knew someone would would pay handsomely for a warlock's right hand. Since the trio would be strongest at sundown, Hellboy and Yad waited and enjoyed each other's company.
Upon learning Hellboy was from England, he told the agent that prior to this, that he worked briefly with Sir Edward Grey, even having a few drinks with him. As he remembered the Witchfinder fondly before the Ripper case and his falling out with the Queen, he mused that Grey deserved a better fate. It was at that moment, the warlock's minions launched their attack. Yad allowed Hellboy to deal with the demons while he took care of the warlock.
Yad had the warlock at gunpoint. The warlock though offered the hunter a deal, and presented Yad a sealed contract that was signed by Yad's father that condemned his mother and sister to Hell. WHile the warlock could not do anything for Yad's mother or sister, burning the contract would free the hunter from his long life as the longer he walked the Earth would drive him to madness. Yad considered the offer, but then instead shot the real warlock dead who was looming behind him with a knife. Yad told the warlock he never considered himself a wise man, but was not fool to trust a warlock. The warlock's death freed the two demons in servitude who took to the skies rather than avenge their master.
After the battle, Yad collected the hand of the warlock and later shared a bottle of vodka with Hellboy. Hellboy wanted to know more about the hunter's story though Yad told Hellboy that he was just an old man that hunted werewolves for money. Once the train arrived at the station, Yad bid farewell to the paranormal investigator.
Yad's existence was reported to Professor Trevor Bruttenholm and the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense gleamed from what they had of Sir Edward Grey's journals, the name Yad Toovich is never mentioned. Though Dr. Saunders states that there is a mention of Igor Tovich, a man from the mid 17th century, who was mauled by a wolf and feared of being cursed and turning into a werewolf. The story went on to say that Igor sold the souls of his wife, son and daughter to the devil to escape his curse. A wolf though came and swallowed the wife and daughter, but the son managed to escape. The son's fear of dying and burning in Hell was so great that he refused to die.
