Enkeladite

Enkeladite is a a greenish glassy residue produced by the atomic testing of Project Enkelados in the Utah desert in 1948.

Description

Unlike typical atomic glass such as trinitite, Enkeladite possessed supernatural properties. Professor Trevor Bruttenholm attributed this to the site of the atomic tests, which possessed significant geomantic energies that had made it a hotbed for occult activity in the past. The Enkeladite attracted strange creatures from a parallel Earth who manifested through a rip in reality caused by the atomic blast. Professor Bruttenholm had the Enkeladite in the desert removed and the land restored, which succeeded in stopping the creatures from appearing.

However, the cleanup operation had many personnel collecting small shards of the glassy stones either for study or for personal souvenirs. Other samples began to be distributed secretly to foreign powers who were interested in the material's potential. Even after the restoration of the original site, the Enkeladite pieces remained dangerous, as on more than one occasion they mutated nearby organisms into monsters. Fenix is in possession of an Enkeladite pendant.
