Abu Gung and the Beanstalk is a one-shot story written and drawn by Mike Mignola. It was originally published in Scatterbrain #1 as a five-page story. This version of the story was then collected in the Scatterbrain hardcover collection. Mignola completely redrew the story and expanded it to nine pages when it was included in The Amazing Screw-On Head and Other Curious Objects.
Plot
Professor E.E. Stoop tells the tale of a young boy, Abu Gung, who visits the decrepit house of two old women. The women tell him the story of their relative who was tricked by a devil into consuming three magic beans that caused a giant beanstalk to grow out of her. Gung climbs the beanstalk and meets the same devil at the top. He is able to trick the devil into looking over the edge and then pushes the devil to its death.
